Legislation Would Prevent “Rehoming” Of Children

Legislation is advancing in the Michigan Senate designed to stop the “rehoming” of kids in the state. Senator Rick Jones says some parents will look for people online who want to take their children in exchange for money, and they use state law to shield themselves while doing it. He says that’s dangerous.

“Any pedophile, child abuser, drug user, could get kids that way,” Jones said.

The Republican from Grand Ledge told Michigan’s Big Show those bad parents can legally assign their children to whoever takes the offer. His bill would prevent parents in most circumstances from assigning their kids to others for more than three months.
