A new study has found that Boys and Girls Club organizations around the country are a significant economic benefit to the communities they serve. Researchers from the University of Michigan hired by the organization say each dollar invested in the Boys and Girls Club amounts to $9.60 in earnings and cost savings. Brian Saxton, the CEO of the Boys and Girls Club of Benton Harbor, says part of the reason is that the club enables many parents to work.

“We are open year-round,” Saxton told WSJM. “We are open when school is closed, and it allows parents on an ongoing basis to have some place for their children to go.”

Also, Saxton says the Boys and Girls Club often helps young people do well in school, which leads to economic benefits later. He says he knew the organization is an economic benefit to the communities it serves, and is glad to now have solid numbers to back that up.
