Blue Water Bridge Receiving Makeover

Crews are removing old paint and corrosion from the westbound span of the Blue Water Bridge connecting Port Huron to Sarnia, Ontario, in Canada. The Times Herald of Port Huron reports Friday that the westbound span of the bridge also will be repainted as part of the nearly $12 million makeover. Work started in May and should be completed by the end of November. Some lanes have to be closed as part of the work.
State Transportation spokeswoman Jocelyn Hall says the work is necessary every 20 to 30 years. The newspaper says the three-lane westbound span was renovated in 1999. It opened in 1938. A second span that handles eastbound traffic opened in 1997.
