MI Immigration Group: Supreme Court Decision Temporary Setback

The Supreme Court has blocked President Barack Obama’s immigration executive actions. The 4-4 decision delivers a win to states challenging the President’s plan to give a deportation reprieve to roughly four-million illegal immigrants. Diego Bonesatti , the Legal Director for Michigan United, calls the ruling a “temporary setback.”

“If a pro-immigrant president is elected and appoints a liberal justice, we will be able to break the tie,” Bonesatti said. “If an anti-immigrant president is elected and appoints a justice in the mold of the late Scalia, then the tie will be broken against us.”

Meanwhile, House Speaker Paul Ryan is calling the deadlock a “major victory” in the “fight to restore the separation of powers.”
