Lest We Forget Program Set For This Weekend

The annual Lest We Forget program is about to get underway in Benton Harbor and St. Joseph. Lest We Forget’s Don Alsbro says this Saturday will bring a simulated beach landing, although it won’t actually be at a beach this year.

“We’re going to be doing the beach landing up at the airport,” Alsbro told WSJM. “The nice thing about it is that you won’t have to find a parking spot Saturday morning. You can come to the airport and watch. Also, you’ll be able to come up real close and touch the landing craft, so I think it’ll be a little more personal.”

Alsbro says there’s less beach this year at Tiscornia Park, which is why they chose instead to hold the program at the Southwest Michigan Regional Airport. Starting Thursday, there will be rides aboard World War II landing craft available at the boat launch on Riverview Drive in Benton Harbor. Friday, they’ll welcome the Michigan Vietnam Memorial Wall into town with a motorcycle procession at 2 p.m. Saturday’s program at the airport begins at 10 a.m. You can find out more at LestWeForgetUSA.org .
