Bystanders wrestled a dog described as a pit bull away as it attacked a western Michigan woman and her pet dog. The Holland Sentinel reports that the woman was walking her Jack Russell terrier along a Holland street Tuesday morning when the pit bull approached. Witnesses tell the newspaper that the woman raised the smaller dog above her head, but the pit bull jumped and bit her arm. She also was bitten on the thigh.
Her dog suffered bites to its face. Two men pinned the pit bull to the ground until police arrived. The pit bull was taken to a shelter by animal control officials. Its owner was not present during the attack.
