South Haven Chamber Of Commerce Warns Members Of Phone Scam

The South Haven Area Chamber of Commerce is warning its members about a scam. The chamber says some businesses have received phone calls from a company out of Texas called Universal Ads or Universal Adcom, claiming to be producing the chamber map and offering to sell them advertising. The map is produced every other year, and directs visitors to the area to local businesses. The chamber of commerce says this Texas company is NOT the company it has hired to do this year’s map, and the phone calls are a scam. The chamber notes it is working with its usual publisher, Harbor House out of Boyne City, on the map this year. One thing that makes the scammers sound convincing is that they know the name of the chamber’s real salesperson, and will mention it during the call. The South Haven Area Chamber of Commerce warns members not to fall for the trick. It has reported the Texas company to the Better Business Bureau, and asks anyone who receives such a call to let it know.
