Police are at the scene of a standoff in Van Buren County this afternoon. Michigan State Police Lieutenant Angel Ouwinga says it all started when a detective went to the suspect’s home in the area of County Road 388 and 60th Street near South Haven about 10:30 a.m. to interview him as part of an investigation. She says, at one point, the man became agitated.

“The subject then went back into his residence, came out with a long gun, and came back outside and proceeded to fire one round from the long gun,” Ouwinga said.

The detective then retreated and called for backup. There have been no injuries, and police are negotiating with the man, who remains in his home.
