Indiana Michigan Power has broken gound on its new solar farm near Watervliet. To be located just east of town along Red Arrow Highway, the site will have more than 50,000 solar panels when finished. I&M President and COO Paul Chodak says it’s all part of the company’s plan to provide more emission-free power.

“It reduces the carbon footprint overall,” said Paul Chodak, President and Chief Operating Officer of I&M. “It joins the 450 megawatts of wind that we already have.”

The solar facility will be capable of generating 4.6 megawatts of energy, the equivalent of powering about 650 homes annually. It’s I&M’s fourth solar farm, and is expected to be up and running by the end of this year.
