Whirlpool Installing Wind Turbines For Ohio Facilities

Whirlpool has announced plans for new wind turbines to partially power some of its plants in Ohio. The appliance maker announced Tuesday it will invest $13.5, installing three turbines for its Marion facility and one for its Ottawa plant. They’re expected to be finished early next year, and will offset Whirlpool’s energy consumption in Marion by 19%, and in Ottawa by 34%. All turbines will be built by One Energy as part of its “Wind for Industry” project, and Whirlpool says once all is done, many of the products it sells in the United States will be made partially with wind power. Ron Voglewede, Global Sustainability Director for Whirlpool, says it’s also the appliance maker’s goal to help consumers reduce their environmental footprints while also improving performance.
