LMC Trustees To Further Vet Previous Candidate For President

Lake Michigan College Trustees have spent a week thinking it over, and they’ve decided to proceed with vetting Robert Spohr for the position of college president. Spohr was previously considered during the president search last year which resulted in the hiring of Dr. Jennifer Spielvogel, who was fired this month. Following a Tuesday meeting, LMC Board of Trustees Vice President Dr. Michael Lindley told us Spohr could have a lot to offer the college.

“We don’t even like to say he finished second because it was really very, very close,” Lindley told WSJM. “We’re going to go ahead and do some additional vetting. We did some last year, and we’re going to do some additional.”

Lindley says, as part of that process, the board will make a visit to Montcalm Community College, where Spohr is the Vice President for Student and Academic Affairs. Right now, he says Spohr is “Plan A” when it comes to replacing Spielvogel. Dr. Bob Harrison is serving as the interim president, which gives the board time if it’s determined Spohr won’t work out. Trustees could move to hire Spohr by the end of June, or begin another national search, if necessary.
