Lt. Governor Leading Lead Poisoning Panel

Governor Rick Snyder has created a new panel tasked with eliminating lead poisoning in Michigan children. The body was announced on Friday, and set to lead it up is Lieutenant Governor Brian Calley. He says it’s not just an infrastructure board.

“It comes down to paint, soil, dust, and then infrastructure, and that’s the metal composition,” Calley said. “There are steps that can be taken to mitigate and then to re-mediate.”

Calley says Flint’s recent lead water crisis has increased awareness of lead poisoning, noting the state does have the tools to tackle the problem. The panel will present recommendations to Governor Snyder on lead-poisoning care, reporting and lead abatement by November.
