Red Cross Hoping To Avoid Drop In Summer Blood Donations

The American Red Cross is holding a series of blood drives around southwest Michigan throughout the next month in an attempt to combat the usual slow down in donations that occurs during the summer. Spokesperson Todd Kulman says people have other things on their minds this time of year.

“Vacations, summer vacations for the students that make up a big part of our donor base,” Kulman told WSJM. “So, we’re hoping to get two additional blood donors above what’s expected at each Red Cross blood drive this summer. If we can do that, we can certainly ensure that we’ll have a healthy blood supply.”

Kulman says just one blood donation can help to save up to three lives. The Red Cross will hold drives around Berrien and Van Buren Counties starting this week through mid-June. Below is a list of them. To make an appointment to give, go to RedCrossBlood.org.
