Combating the epidemic of opiod abuse deaths continues to be a top priority of law enforcement and health agencies. A forum was held Monday in Jackson County for possible solutions to be discussed, and on hand was Sheriff Steve Rand. He says dealing with heroin abuse will require some review by the medical establishment.

“Put us on a path where we’re not overusing drugs like we have been over the last few decades,” Rand said.

Rand says a piece of the effort also has to be education. Monday’s forum at Jackson High School was organized by Congressman Tim Walberg, following last week’s passage by the U.S. House of the Comprehensive Opioid Abuse Reduction Act of 2016.
