BH School Board To Consider Layoffs Next Week

Some layoffs could be on the way for Benton Harbor Schools. This week, the board of education was presented with a list of 22 members of the staff who could be cut, saving about $1 million per year. District staff tell us the cuts would only affect non-union employees. They’re intended to save money as a precautionary measure ahead of the end of the school year, and if they’re made, some of the employees could later be brought back. The board of education will be asked to vote on the matter at next week’s regular meeting. It’s set for 6 p.m. Tuesday at the high school.
