Midwest Family Broadcasting is mourning the loss of one of our own. Denise Bohn, the morning co-host for 98.3 The Coast, a reporter for WSJM News, and anchor of the WSJM Week in Review, was found dead Tuesday morning at her home in Royalton Township. Also found dead in the home was her husband, Eric Stewart. Michigan State Police say the deaths were a murder-suicide, with the husband being the shooter. The 911 call in at 6:38 a.m. That’s according to Michigan State Police Sergeant Ryan Schoonveld.

“We did find a firearm at the scene which we believe was used,” Schoonveld told WSJM. “The female was located upstairs, and the male was located downstairs with the weapon.”

Schoonveld says the couple’s three children were not hurt, and are now being cared for by Denise Bohn’s many friends and family members.

“They’re being taken care of,” Schoolveld said. “Lots of family and friends are surrounding them and loving them, and they are being taken care of.”

Meanwhile, there’s been an outpouring of condolences from all over the community by the people who had been touched by Denise Bohn. Gayle Olson, Midwest Family Broadcasting Board Chair, says Denise was a 24-7 reporter.

“In the 40 years that I’ve been involved with broadcast journalism, she was one of the best that I recall,” Olson said.

Denise Bohn was a breast cancer survivor and veteran TV news reporter who worked around the clock for the Susan G. Komen organization. Police say autopsies are to be performed in Grand Rapids this week.
