Double murder suspect Alex Perez will undergo a psychiatric examination. Perez, accused in the killings of the mother of his children and her father in Coloma, was in court Tuesday for a pre-exam conference. His attorney asked that he be examined for competency, which the judge allowed. The Berrien County Prosecutor’s office says he’ll be examined at the Center For Forensic Psychiatry in Ypsilanti, and then a report will be sent the judge. It could take up to 90 days for the psychiatric report to be finished. Prosecutors say Perez killed 27-year-old Renee and 67-year-old John Mitchell in their Coloma home in January. He was later arrested in Colorado, where had his 2 small daughters with him. They weren’t hurt, and have since been brought back to Michigan. Perez was extradited back to Berrien County early this month.
