A 25-year-old Paw Paw man is recovering after he was attacked by 2 dogs on Thursday. The Van Buren County Sheriff’s Department says deputies were called to a home/kennel in the 39,000 block of M-43 in Waverly Township around 2:30 p.m. They arrived to find the man in the backyard with two large pitt bull/bull mastiffs. He was bleeding heavily. While the deputies were getting the man to safety, he told them a 48-year-old woman and a 4-year-old boy were trapped in a pole barn on the property, unable to get out because the dogs were blocking the entrance. The deputies then went to confront the animals, and shot and killed one of them. The woman and the boy were freed from the pole barn, and found to be unharmed, although shaken. The 25-year-old was treated at a local hospital. The sheriff’s department says it all started when the two dogs got out of their kennels and began fighting. The man had tried to intervene, and they attacked him. Police note the location of the incident is a licensed kennel and breeder. Van Buren County Animal Control assisted at the scene.
