It’s been nearly two months since St. Joseph High School’s principal has been in his office or on school property, taking a paid leave of absence to deal with personal issues.

45-year old Kevin Riggs has been on paid administrative leave since February 19, receiving his $95-thousand salary. There is no indication he will return anytime soon.

“It’s a personnel issue so I’m not at liberty to say anything about it,” St. Joseph Public Schools Superintendent Ann Cardon told WSJM News. “He’s dealing with some personal issues.”

The district announced nearly two months ago Riggs needed to take time off to deal with personal problems. Per his contract and school policy he is on a paid leave.

WSJM News has learned Superintendent Cardon plans to begin the search for a new high school principal for the next school year, and will officially post the job opening on Monday.

Administrators stress Riggs has done nothing illegal and that his situation does not involve any inappropriate contact or behavior with students.

Attempts to reach Riggs have been unsuccessful. He is under contract through June 2017.
