Effort To Recall Gov. Snyder Hits Berrien County

If you’re looking to recall Governor Snyder, you’ll have five chances in the next two weeks to either sign a petition or grab some to distribute for signatures in Berrien County. Dave Carlock of Benton Harbor says he’s been inspired to get involved with the recall based on the emergency manager law, which he feels was an overreach of authority and at the heart of the Flint water crisis.

“The city of Flint could have been Benton Harbor. We’re really lucky that we didn’t have that type of an infrastructure problem here.”

Carlock will have recall petitions available to sign and distribute tonight in Niles at 309 North 5th Street in conjunction with a meeting of the South County Democrats. The Grammy-winning musician is a frequent critic of the governor on social media, and says Snyder lacks the integrity of former President Richard Nixon.

“When (Nixon) realized how badly he screwed things up with Watergate, he felt the integrity to resign. And our own governor doesn’t have the integrity of Richard Nixon. It’s pretty mindblowing to me.”

Organizers of the recall have just five weeks left to gather a total of 790,000 signatures of registered voters to recall the governor. It’s a lot, but Carlock says when it’s broken down to averaging 800 petition forms with a dozen signatures each per county, it seems to be a less daunting task.

Locations to pick up a petition are:
Monday April 11 at 309 North 5th Street in Niles at 7 p.m.
Thursday April 14 at Cafe Gulistan in Harbert at 6:30 p.m.
