A Pure Michigan ad showcasing locations around Berrien County has failed to get a symbolic vote of support from the Benton Harbor City Commission. At Monday’s regular meeting, Mayor Pro Tem Duane Seats said he can’t agree with calling Michigan “pure,” given all of the things going on in Flint and other communities.

“Until somebody’s willing to step up and rectify the situation for the people of Flint and the legislation that has been passed over the last seven years means that Michigan is not pure,” Seats told WSJM. “I think it’s icing on a bad cake.”

Seats said Michigan’s emergency manager law is at the root of the Flint crisis, and suggested state Representative Al Pscholka drink two gallons of the city’s lead-tainted water, and Governor Rick Snyder five. The city commission unanimously rejected the vote in support of the Pure Michigan ad. It’s slated to air regionally this fall.
