The U.S. Coast Guard plans to shift some operations from its Station Muskegon in western Michigan. MLive.com reports that search and rescue
operations from the station will switch to summer-only after the end of this summer. Response crews will staff the station six days each week starting in summer 2017. Operations currently are year-round. Some Muskegon staff will be moved to Grand Haven. Coast Guard members still
will be in the Muskegon building year-round to maintain aids to navigation along Lake Michigan’s eastern shore. Crews from Grand Haven will respond to search and rescue operations in Muskegon waters on Saturdays during summer 2017 and at other times of the year. Local authorities in the Muskegon area will continue to work year-round with the Coast Guard.
