Financial Boost For South Haven Lighthouse Project

The effort to reconstruct and maintain the lighthouse on the shore of Lake Michigan at South Haven has just gotten another $60,000 boost from the Michigan Lighthouse Assistance grant. The money comes from the sale of lighthouse license plates. It’s a competitive grant with a local match. A reconstruction project to remove the rust, rebuild the lighthouse structure and restore the interior and exterior of the 113-year old steel structure began last fall and will continue this spring, funded by over $300,000 raised locally.
