The Cass County Undersheriff wants the top law enforcement post in the department. Richard Behnke is running for sheriff this year as he seeks to succeed Joseph Underwood, who is retiring and not seeking another term. Behnke began his 30-year law enforcement career right out of college with the Village of Marcellus in 1986 and has been with the Cass County Sheriff’s Department for the last 29 years. He has been undersheriff since 2003. Behnke is running as a Republican and graduated from Ferris State University in 1986.
