Democrats Call For Fracking Regulations

Fracking companies would operate under new rules and regulations under legislation introduced by Democrats in the Michigan House. State Representative Christine Greig says the package of bills would go a long way in protecting the state’s most vital industries.

“The natural gas industry is an important segment of the economy, but agriculture and tourism are also important, and fracking has the potential to negatively impact those vital drivers of our state’s economy,” Grieg said.

The bills would, among other things, require companies to say what chemicals they use when fracking, allow local governments to request a public hearing before a fracking company moves in to a community and allow local governments to regulate fracking.
