Michigan State Police had to close I-94 in Van Buren County Friday for several hours following two multi-vehicle crashes. Troopers say the first crash happened on the eastbound side around 11:20 am at the 59 mile marker. It involved nine cars and four semis. One of the semis was hauling motor oil, and leaked about 25 hundred gallons of it on to the road, so the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality was called in for cleanup. Also on the eastbound side of the highway, a crash took place at the 58 mile marker involving eight cars and six semis. The crashes caused the highway to be backed up for several miles in both directions. A total of four people were injured, one seriously. As always, Michigan State Police ask drivers to go slowly when there is ice and snow on the road.
