BH School Board Approves New Superintendent Contract

Doctor Shelly Mills-Walker is slated to start as the superintendent of Benton Harbor Area Schools February 22nd, following school board approval of her contract Tuesday evening. The contract was drafted by the Michigan Department of Treasury, and then vetted by the state attorney general’s office. School Board Vice President Joseph Taylor says he’s pleased to bring Doctor Mills-Walker to the table.

“I voted for her,” Taylor told WSJM. “I’m excited, and I’m ready for her to go to work to help change the district,” Taylor told WSJM,

The contract includes a 180 thousand dollar salary, and a five thousand dollar moving allowance to get Mills-Walker to Benton Harbor from St. Louis. It runs through June of 2018. Also Tuesday, the board made official the appointment of district Curriculum and Grant Director Patricia Robinson as the interim superintendent until Mills-Walker starts.
