State Representative Al Pscholka is reminding Berrien County residents to be sure to report suspected landfill odors to the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality when they notice them. Pscholka’s backing legislation now in the State Senate that would increase the fines landfills can be charged for violations of state rules on odors, and says he continues to hear from Coloma and Watervliet area residents about their concerns with the Orchard Hill Sanitary Landfill in Watervliet. He says it’s important to file complaints quickly, and through the proper channels.

“I did it today,” Pscholka told WSJM. “I drove through there last night at seven o’clock, and the place stunk to high heaven. So, we’ve got to continue to put the foot on the gas and make sure that we get this situation handled.”

Pscholka says you can either call the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality directly, or lodge a complaint with his own website. It’s RepPscholka79.com . There, Pscholka has a form that can be filled out which his office will forward to the right authorities.
