A former Benton Township police officer has been found guilty in the death of a Hartford woman in a September traffic crash. The Berrien County Prosecutor’s office says Eugene Anderson struck Kimberly Bedford with his police cruiser while on his way to a domestic violence call the night of September 20th. The investigation found Anderson had been going 60 miles an hour on Pipestone Avenue, where the speed limit is 35. The defense countered that Bedford had been intoxicated at the time of the incident. On Thursday, a jury found Anderson guilty of a motor vehicle violation causing death, which is a one year misdemeanor. The verdict came after a three day trial. Anderson was fired from the Benton Township Police Department shortly after he was charged in the crash. His sentencing has been set for February 19th.
