It will be slow going for most of the day today and into tomorrow on the roads due to an ice storm headed our way. Freezing rain will develop this morning and continue through the evening. According to the National Weather Service, up to a half-inch of ice accumulation is possible around the state, but locally, ice accumulations are expected to be about a tenth to one-fifth of an inch. Strong wind gusts of up to 50 miles an hour will accompany the icy rain. A Freezing Rain Advisory is in effect from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. today. The NWS warns driving on roads and walking on sidewalks will be “very hazardous.” Michigan State Police are urging people to travel only if necessary and have supplies on hand for running a generator and essentials for your home or car.
