Gamrat, Courser Investigation Still Not Over

The Democratic leader in the Michigan House says a federal whistleblower lawsuit filed last month against the House by two former staffers gives credence to an external investigation into misuse of taxpayer resources by two former state representatives. However, House Speaker Kevin Cotter contends his office didn’t do anything wrong.

“Absolutely not an issue of a cover-up,” Cotter said. “The other side, from time to time, will find an opportunity to take a political pot shot, but…there’s no validity to it.”

Both the state’s attorney general and Michigan State Police are continuing their investigation, which Democrats secured in exchange for their votes to expel former State Representative Cindy Gamrat in September. Former State Representative Todd Courser resigned an hour earlier. The two had an affair and a House investigation found they used taxpayer resources to cover it up.
