Report Ranks Life Expectancy In MI Cities

Battle Creek is the Michigan city with the lowest life expectancy, according to a new report from 24/7 Wall Street. The website looked at a variety of demographic information to compile its list, noting poverty and behavior are big factors in someone’s longevity. For example, Battle Creek’s obesity rate of 35 percent is one of the highest in the country. The average life expectancy in the Cereal City is 75.8 years. Ann Arbor, meanwhile, has Michigan’s highest life expectancy, at 80 years. The lowest average life expectancy for any urban area in the country is in Gadsden, Alabama, at 73 years. Of Michigan’s 14 urban areas, residents in only four cities are expected to live longer than the national average of 78.5 years.
