Benton Harbor Mayor Marcus Muhammad says he’s ready to get to work after being sworn in this week. First, Muhammad says he wants to meet with business leaders during his first 100 days, working to make the city more investment friendly. Also, he wants to get to work on improving residential neighborhoods.

“I really want to look into a Neighborhood Development Authority that will be made up of block clubs, as well as stakeholders so we can find a way to beautify our neighborhoods,” Muhammad told WSJM. “Also, I think that there’s a need for business in our neighborhoods, as well.”

One problem Muhammad identifies in Benton Harbor is the city’s lack of a proper grocery store. Attracting one is a goal, as is working with the city manager on reducing water rates and improving the customer service experience for those with concerns about their bill.
