South Haven Parks Getting State Grants

Two South Haven parks are receiving grants from the state Natural Resources Trust Fund. According to state Representative Aric Nesbitt, the project development grants are among 44 approved by the NRTF board of trustees. Black River Park will receive $37,500 to replace two skid piers at the boat launch, which is the only public boat launch with access to Lake Michigan between Benton Harbor and Saugatuck. North Beach Park has been awarded $300,000 for a variety of improvements, including updating the children’s play area, building a canoe/kayak launch, shoreline stabilization, parking lot improvements, and a beach access mat. Nesbitt says the money comes from restricted funds that can’t be used for anything other than enhancing the state’s natural resources.
