Trees For Troops Sends Hundreds Of Christmas Trees To Soldiers

Between 60 and 100 volunteers teamed up Monday morning in Van Buren County to load trucks with Christmas trees for US Service members. It was all for the tenth annual Trees for the Troops program at Wahmhoff Farms Nursery in Gobles. The farm’s Betsy Wahmhoff Parales says hundreds of trees were shipped out.

“Our count may not be exact, but it’s about 600  trees that were donated and got loaded on to two Fed Ex trailers,” Wahmhoff-Parales told WSJM.

The trees came from farms all over southwest Michigan. Wahmhoff-Parales says it’s all about showing a little gratitude to the troops.

“The military dedicates their life to taking care of our country, and this is a way to give a little bit back to them,” Wahmhoff-Parales said.

Wahmhoff-Parales says she’ll sometimes hear from soldiers who received the donated trees, and they’re always grateful. She thinks the holidays can get some of them feeling down, and she hopes Trees for Troops can help.
