Michigan’s average gas price to start the week is down to $1.81 a gallon according to Triple-A Michigan, which is a drop of 12¢ in the last week. GasBuddy’s Patrick DeHaan says the state has the lowest prices in the country, but he expects we’ll see a significant increase today to around $1.99. He believes many stations have been selling gas at a loss, and they’ll be looking to recoup that this week. According to Triple-A, the last time prices were this low in Michigan was February 25, 2009. The lowest average price is in the Saginaw/Bay City/Midland area at $1.71, with the highest prices in Marquette at $1.94. The auto club puts the average in the Benton Harbor/St. Joseph area at $1.80. GasBuddy spotters have found prices just above a $1.50 in the Kalamazoo area and $1.57 at several stations in South Haven. That website puts the statewide average at $1.79. According to Triple-A, the national average gas price is $2.04.
