Police Remind Holiday Shoppers To Be Careful

Berrien County Sheriff Paul Bailey wants you to be safe when you go shopping this holiday season, and he’s offering some advice on how to avoid becoming a victim. Bailey says, first of all, you should try to park in a well-lit area, and be aware of your surroundings. Also, it’s important not to leave valuable items in your car.

“If you’re going to be shopping, going from store to store, if you have a trunk be sure you put all your packages in the trunk of your car,” Bailey told WSJM. “Or, if you don’t have a trunk, take a blanket with you. Cover them up so they can’t be seen.”

Bailey says it’s better to go shopping with a friend, and he advises women to keep their purses close to them. Or, better yet, wear a fanny pack instead. Also, if you have children, Bailey says you should remember to teach them to go to a store clerk, security guard, or front counter in case you get separated.
