MI Blood Hoping People Donate For The Holidays

Michigan Blood is hoping southwest Michigan residents are in the mood to give this holiday season. It held a blood drive on Friday at its office on Cleveland Avenue, offering free pumpkins pies to everyone who stopped by. Spokesperson Val Gent says the blood you give goes to local hospitals.

“Michigan Blood provides blood to more than 50 hospitals across Michigan,” Gent told WSJM. “This includes Lakeland Health. So, if you donate to Michigan Blood, the blood really could help someone in your community.”

Audra Vilag, of Berrien Springs, stopped by to give.

“If think it’s really important, especially on holidays,” Vilag told WSJM. “People are driving. There are so many people driving, and there are so many car accidents that happen. I want my blood to go to someone if they get in a car accident.”

Vilag says people should donate this time of year because of all the car crashes that happen. Michigan Blood will hold another drive at its Cleveland Avenue office on Monday from 10 am to five pm, and those who stop by can receive a gift card to Amazon or Target, as long as the supply holds out. Michigan Blood reminds everyone that just one blood donation can save three lives.
