Today Is Michigan Adoption Day

Adoptive families will be honored at courts around the state as part of Michigan Adoption Day. Today, dozens of adoptions are being finalized in special ceremonies as part of the yearly celebration. Macomb County Circuit Court Judge David Viviano explains the events highlight the need to find permanent families for waiting foster children, while paying gratitude to adoptive families.

He says there are about 13,000 children in Michigan’s foster care system, and nearly 2,400 awaiting adoption. Michigan Adoption Day is held annually the Tuesday before Thanksgiving, and this year’s theme is “Giving Thanks for Families.”
