We’re learning more about the Benton Harbor man who was killed in a shootout with police on Wednesday. 44 year old Marcus Meridy was shot and killed after firing at officers who responded after he kidnapped his estranged wife from her workplace and brought her to the American Inn on Napier Avenue. A look at his criminal record shows Meridy had spent a good deal of time in prison, including serving 13 years between 1999 and early 2013. His criminal record goes back to 1992, and includes such offenses as criminal sexual conduct, manufacturing and delivering cocaine, and fleeing from police. Meridy shot his estranged wife, Kenyatta Wright, during Wednesday’s standoff, but she is expected to recover.
