82 Year Old Woman Killed In Niles Twp Fire

The Niles Township Fire Department is investigating a house fire that killed an 82 year old woman Sunday morning. Chief Gary Brovold tells us that it was reported by the victim shortly after seven am in the 24 hundred block of Bond Street. The woman called dispatch to report that her house was on fire, but then got disconnected. Dispatch called her back, spoke to her briefly, and then was disconnected again. When firefighters arrived, they found her in a doorway. Brovold isn’t sure why the woman was unable to get out of the house. He says the structure was badly damaged, and firefighters believe the blaze started in a wood stove. They were to take a closer look at the stove this week.
