Firearm deer hunting season begins in Michigan this Sunday, and the Department of Natural Resources is expecting thousands of Michiganders to head out into the woods. DNR Wildlife biologist Ken Kesson says the numbers in southwest Michigan may be a little down, though.

Kesson says that, in the Lower Peninsula, most hunters just go out on private land. In the UP, though, there is plenty of federal and state land where most of the hunting takes place. He also reminds hunters to keep it safe by wearing blaze orange, paying attention to where they shoot, and using a harness when in a tree stand.
