Indiana Michigan Power Working On Power Restoration

Strong winds are tearing through the state today, and making it difficult for utility workers to keep up at times with power outages. Indiana Michigan Power’s Erica Putt says they’ve had a peak of about 2,700 in Michigan without power as of 10 a.m.

I&M doesn’t have estimates as yet on the number of downed wires and broken poles that they’re working with. The hardest hit area so far has been south of downtown Benton Harbor, where about 600 customers were without power this morning. Putt has advice for people who want restoration updates.

She says right now, they’re keeping on top of the outages as best they can.

She adds they have crews on standby and are in contact with their Midwest mutual assistance group and have more help ready to come in from other utilities. Wind gusts are expected today of as strong as 55 miles an hour. More outages are expected throughout the day and overnight, as we are under a high wind warning from the National Weather Service until 10 p.m.
