Benton Harbor Schools Superintendent Doctor Leonard Seawood’s employment status with the district should be settled on Saturday as the long investigation into his performance has ended and the school board’s had time to review the report. President Sharon James says that Seawood was suspended in May as trustees wanted to know more about how the district was being run and money spent. She says the board no longer wanted to be a rubber stamp for Seawood, and the more the investigation uncovered, the longer the process took. Now, she says Seawood will meet with the board at eight am Saturday to discuss its findings.

The allegations, James says, are strictly about Seawood’s performance, and don’t involve anything criminal.

Michigan State Police continue to review the Seawood report, and may not be finished until the end of the year. Also, the Berrien County Prosecutor’s office has not received the report, and Seawood has not been charged with anything. James says that question is totally separate from what the board has been considering. Saturday’s special board of education meeting will be at Benton Harbor High School at eight am. Seawood will have a choice as to whether the proceeding is public, or behind closed doors.
