Benton Harbor High School now has a new marching band director in place. At a Tuesday work session of the board of education, President Sharon James announced that the district has hired Ronald Evans, a previous assistant band director for the district, for the position. Now that he’s on board, the band can start practicing for the football season, even if it’s a little late. The school board in July heard from frustrated band members who still didn’t have a director and couldn’t practice on school property because of the lack of a teacher with proper certification. At Tuesday’s meeting, President James assured everyone that “the band is alive and kicking.”
