The emergency sirens at the Cook nuclear power plant near Bridgman will be tested over the next several weeks. Indiana Michigan Power’s Dave Lefor says that between the weeks of August 31st and September 14th, they’ll be checking all 70 of the warning sirens located within ten miles of the plant.

He says that these tests will be different than what you might hear in an actual emergency because the sirens will each be tested individually, going off three or four times for about 30 seconds. In emergency situations, the sirens would go off for a full three minutes, as they do on the once-a-month Saturday tests.
