We’re over a year from the 2016 election, and already Congressman Fred Upton is facing a challenge for his seat from Democrat Paul Clements of Kalamazoo, who ran in 2014. He’s hoping for more support with a presidential election in 2016, saying turnout was not what he had hoped for last year, as a lot of voters don’t bother to cast ballots in non-presidential years.

Just over 40% of the votes in the 6th Congressional District were cast for the Democratic challenger last fall, while Upton cruised to reelection with 55.8% support. The Western Michigan University professor tells WSJM News that he feels our “democracy is broken by influence of big money in politics.”
