Niles Woman Thinks Contractor Scamming Her

There’s a she said, he said case playing out in Niles on a roofing project. Darlene Mercurio tells our newsgathering partners at WNDU NewsCenter 16 that she thinks she’s being scammed by contractor Wes Pavey, who gave her a bid about $2,500 lower than she’d received to replace the Owens Cornings shingles that were installed a decade ago which were supposed to last for 30 years.

Pavey contends he’s not at fault for any delays because they never agreed on a start date.

According to Mercurio, Pavey gave a list of excuses for why the project hadn’t started as she continued to give him more money for supplies. She adds the Cass County Sheriff’s Department has demanded Pavey refund the $4,500 she’s paid to date at some point today, but she’s not optimistic.
