Community Showcase For Local Area Could Be Set Up At Next PGA Event

Six local organizations are working together on a plan to better promote the Benton Harbor and Saint Joseph areas during next year’s Senior PGA Tournament at Harbor Shores. Saint Joe Marketing Director Susan Solon says that the two cities, the Southwest Michigan Tourism Council, the Cornerstone Alliance and Chamber, and Saint Joseph Today are aiming to set up a community showcase at the golf tournament in the PGA merchandise tent.

Under the plan being discussed, there would also be shuttle service provided to Benton Harbor and Saint Joseph to and from the PGA event. The plan does depend on the local groups getting PGA approval, and Cornerstone Alliance has been working on that. At Monday’s meeting of the Saint Joseph City Commission, commissioners approved a resolution directing Cornerstone to release ten thousand dollars of city money it’s holding in reserve to move forward with the plan. Other partners have also pledged to contribute to the effort.
