Benton Harbor Schools Superintendent Doctor Leonard Seawood continues to earn a paycheck although he hasn’t stepped foot in his office since May, when the school board placed Seawood on administrative leave and ordered an investigation which lasted more than two months. That 1500 page report was recently turned over to Berrien County Prosecutor Mike Sepic who in turn gave it to Michigan State Police this past Monday to start conducting their own investigation. Detective Doug Kill says he is assigned to the case and will review all of the paperwork and interview all the parties involved. He expects, because of the amount of work involved, his investigation won’t be complete until the end of the year. Benton Harbor Acting Superintendent Gregory Weatherspoon says the board ordered an investigation because of concerns Seawood may have miss-used funds. WSJM has made contact with Dr. Seawood who says at this time, upon the advice of his attorney, is declining comment.
